Last Word: A Letter from Betsy Weber, NESC President

Opportunities for board development

Strategic planning often identifies several other areas of needed organizational growth and renewal. These may include board development, rebranding, a realignment of human resources, or consideration of new revenue streams, such as through social enterprise activities.

NESC has consultants who specialize in all of these areas. For instance, Outreach, the organization profiled in our case study, used NESC consultants in a major rebranding initiative that figured prominently in its strategic plan.

We will be focusing on one of these areas in each future edition of this newsletter. The theme of our next newsletter, slated for this summer, will be board development – a priority for all nonprofits . . . and one in which NESC has developed exceptional expertise.

But did you know that there are ways beyond consulting services that NESC helps strengthen nonprofit boards? One of those ways is peer-to-peer networking. Announcing the 2012 Chairmen of the Board Roundtable:

NESC is inviting board chairs to join with chairs of similar-sized organizations in a peer-to-peer learning network, facilitated by experts in their fields. The roundtables will give board chairs an opportunity to explore areas of mutual interest and to learn from each other in a small, collegial environment.

Topics such as, “Ensuring Financial Sustainability,” are relevant to boards of all sizes. It promises to provide useful information and an opportunity for participants to share ideas. If you would like to learn more information, please contact us.
